asleep on the subway

A trip with Mom to Levain Bakery had this little boy tuckered out! Our train was crowded, but I felt like Isaac & I were the only ones there, and it was so nice to have some alone time with my baby.

right now: Washington Square & the ESB

Just a little stroll through the Village after meeting up with Jared. We went down to introduce the kids to everyone at the ortho office where Jared spends his Tuesday afternoons, and to hit up the Manhattan Twins Club tag sale! The Empire State Building is hard to see in the second pic (but it's there, right in the middle). Actually, neither one of these photos is great, but... eh.

Bethany & a fist full of my hair

Some down time with my girl...

right now: Central Park

Meeting up with Jared's classmates to celebrate finishing the ortho board exam! Congratulations!!

We got takeout Thai food for a picnic lunch in Sheep's Meadow. It was gorgeous, perfect, sunny, warm weather for a day in the park... Until it wasn't. The picnic lasted about 15 minutes before we found ourselves in a downpour like only the East Coast can deliver. Worth all the trouble? Definitely.

lunches with daddy

The single greatest thing about living way up in Washington Heights is that we are right next to Jared's clinic. That means, when he's not studying for a major exam like he has been for the last few weeks (but it's over on Thursday, yay!), he is not gone much longer than his 8-5 work day, and almost always makes it home for lunch. Such a complete 180 from the dental school days! We LOVE it, and feels so lucky to have him around.

On Thursdays the babies and I meet up with other friends (mostly moms) in the neighborhood and go to one of the nearby parks for lunch bunch. Jared usually meets us wherever we are. Above the four of us are at J. Hood Wright Park just a couple blocks from home.

Just before setting out in our cute hats!

Isaac's special place

When Jared & I were dating in college (wait, you say, you're STILL in college-- that's besides the point), I started borrowing his car once a week to drive to snowboarding class. I guess Jared could see the writing on the wall, and to him it meant that this was the start of me taking over his entire life and all his stuff. Smart, visionary man. So he designated his car's center console as his "special place" that I was not allowed to touch or even look at.

There was absolutely nothing special in the special place. A few of MY mixed tapes from high school (even though I had already replaced his car stereo with a CD player-- I know, it still makes us sound old), some girl's barrett with a purple feather on it, a hula girl key chain... You get the idea.

I respected his wishes and left it alone-- I just made sure to poke fun on a regular basis.

Well, like father, like son.

Isaac has a special place-- his fist. He will keep that thing so tightly clenched that you'd think he's protecting the world's most prized possession. But when we pry it open (which is much harder than it should be), we just find lint! I don't know where he gets it. I promise we bathe him. In fact, we'll clean out his hand each day, and hours later he has collected more lint.

I guess we could respect his special place and leave it alone, but... ew.

Isaac on the right, holding on tight!

baby boat by the river

On the walk home from the kids' doctor appointment yesterday, we made a quick stop to enjoy the view. Wow, I love this city.

(Forgive the terrible Blackberry picture quality and backlighting!)

we ain't no April fools!

How can you have twins and not participate in the most classic twin joke of all time-- the old switcheroo! On April Fool's Day, no less. Jared must have seen this coming. EVERYONE must have seen this coming. I still had to do it.

When Jared got home, I had them dressed in each other's clothing, and placed them in their bouncers. We were all in the kitchen and the kids had their backs to the door. Jared first came in to give me a kiss (he is well-trained), and then I asked if he would change Bethany's diaper. I knew he'd never get to the changing table before he noticed-- although it would've been awesome for him to open the diaper and get a really big surprise! It was still fun to see him reach for "Bethany" (really Isaac), realize, and say "What?!" about 12 times as his eyes darted back and forth between the babies. April Fools, baby! GOTCHA!!

baby boat sightings

McDonald's. I'm not a fan of Mickey D's but the walk-up window couldn't be more New York, and I was hungry, and it's tricky to get the boat inside anywhere, so I caved. Got the #9 (crispy chicken club) and now I feel gross.

I wish more places had these walk-up windows!
