...no, downpour, that started sometime between when I looked out the window before leaving the apartment and when we got to the ground floor. So, we are watching & enjoying from our dry seats under the awning. Thank goodness I didn't leave 2 minutes earlier!

reasons today is happy
* I am 31. I've had younger days, but I wouldn't mind having older ones too.
* It's Friday. Even though each day is pretty much the same for me now, I still get excited about Friday.
* The kids took (and are still taking) a nice long nap this morning, and so did I.
* We have a babysitter tonight who's willing to stay as late as we want. (Yay Iris!)
* It's Memorial Day weekend. Best weekend of the year. Fact.
* It's almost summer and feels like it. I could marry summer.
* I have health, faith and love.
* And, oh my, these...

call it what it is

For my first post, back in January, I declared that this would not be known as a blog. I thought if I called it a "non-blog," that would remove some of the pressure to be a regular poster of fascinating things like so many people I know. I thought if I told myself it was for the grandmas that would make me feel less weird about me-monstering all over this place. I thought if I just started it, but didn't tell anyone until later, I could just try it on and see how it fits before actually wearing it to the bloggers ball.
I'm always trying to trick myself like this-- setting the clocks 5 min ahead, cutting the dessert in half and hiding it-- and then I realize I am smarter than I thought I was, because I'm often 5 minutes late and finishing that entire brownie. (You can't get me, me!) So, did my tricks work this time? Well, no, no, and yes.
No, it's a blog. That's what these things are called, whether they are good or not. I don't have to be intimidated or feel pressured by that. I can say whatever I want; I can update whenever I want.
No, it's not really for anyone but me. I've always loved sharing photos. I sometimes have fun telling stories. And I'm absolutely crazy about these babies-- I could (and have, and will) gab on endlessly about them. I have sooo many insanely cute pictures and too many loved ones that are far away who I want to know my kids. So this is a good outlet for me. If anyone else likes it too, even better!
Yes, I tried it on. Turns out I like it and am having fun with it. And I'm totally okay if I don't win Best Dressed.
So, here it is. Welcome to my (deep breath)... blog.

first family-of-four road trip!
Another exciting first for the Lee fam-- a road trip to Maryland and DC for the annual AAO (ortho) conference. The kids were great in the car and get probably a B+, maybe an A-, for general happiness throughout the crazy weekend. We loved that Isaac & Bethany got to meet some of our best friends from UCLA & BYU, and some of my best friends' parents from home in MD.
Some of our favorite pics from the weekend...
The gang: Houlbergs, Lees, Shamos & Martins (not pictured: Pooles)
Meeting Sheila & Phil!
Exploring Georgetown

Hanging with Glenn & Jackie, who were kind enough to put up (and put up with) all 14 of us!
The babies! All born within 3 months of each other.
With the Blakesleys! Lucas, Norah, & Katie - my college roomie!

10 days later...
Bethany rolls! Back to front and front to back. She's more content to lay relatively still than her brother is, so she's not the constant roller that he has become, but she does it well. I'm amazed at how close together they are learning these skills! Yay twins!

They're getting really good at being on their bellies, but get tired of it sometimes and then get so upset they can't figure out how to flip back over. Case in point: these pictures (kind of fuzzy from the Blackberry). I think they're kind of hilarious. Poor kids.

how we roll!
Last night Isaac rolled over! Just shy of his 4-month birthday. I had put him down on his back, turned around for no more than 15 seconds, and when I looked back he was on his belly! I flipped him over and he did it 2 or 3 more times and had several more attempts last night, and more successful rolls today, just to prove to us that it wasn't a fluke. Way to go, little man!
Not to be completely outdone by her younger brother, Bethany was trying her best to roll over this morning. She was 99% of the way there a few times (just needed to tuck that left arm). Bethany is a pound bigger, a little stronger, and has been about a week ahead of Isaac in most things, so we were proud of the boy for getting this one first. But Isaac, she is hot on your heels!
It almost surprises me that they both want to roll to the left. It would have been cool if they went opposite directions because of how they were positioned in utero-- like water swirling down the drain in the northern hemisphere versus southern. Ah, the fun things to think about with twins.
