day for daddio

We had fun celebrating fathers yesterday-- this father in particular...

A sweet boy sleeping on Daddy's shoulder

We started off Sunday with a pancake & peaches breakfast and ended it with a picnic in the garden with the Horeys, Copes and Hansens. Isaac's gift to Jared (other than the world map he and his sister went in on together) is pictured above.

Picnicking with Bethany on Saturday

Other adventures included catching up on several Friday Night Lights episodes on Friday night (Katie M, I'm ready for you!), and enjoying the amaaaaaazing weather on Saturday with a picnic at Central Park Sheep Meadow with Jared's classmates. More pictures from that are here. The whole weekend was pretty much perfect.

Thanks, Jared, for being such a perfect Dad. We love you and are so lucky to have you!

P.S. Enough with the teeth/hands all up in their mouths pictures, right?! No more, I promise!

tooth tally!

Bethany: 2
Isaac: 1

Isaac cut his first tooth on June 10! He was just 10 days behind big sis, and then she cut her second literally within hours of his first. It is a tight race, folks!

Getting Isaac's first tooth pictures (toothpicks?) took two rounds. It's not an easy shot to get, even for a dentist and his lovely assistant. Jared thinks Round 1 (see right) looks like we're torturing our child. But, Isaac will appreciate these someday (assuming he has a good sense of humor), and also, it reminds me of this awesome part in a show that I'm kind of embarrassed to admit I've watched a few times and thought was pretty funny. Cougar Town-- aaaaahh I said it! So, if you're really trying to kill some time, this is for you... Maybe if I looked harder I could find just the 20-second clip, but here's the episode; the part is from 5:55 to 6:15. ("Okay, I'm just gonna show you the mouth, ready?") Few shows really make me laugh anymore, but this was one of those moments that did.

Please don't think we're terrible parents. I promise we were gentle.

Some more from this morning, just for fun...

What an awesome way to start the day!

ready to move on, almost

While we are anxiously awaiting our new front-facing, side-by-side, easier-to-push, more-room-to-grow stroller to arrive (on backorder til July, boo!), I am really going to miss seeing this.

May days

Turns out there's kind of a lot of me in May. What are you gonna do. Highlights...

* First official Mother's Day. I have to say "official" because we found out I was pregnant just in time for last year and we did celebrate. No pictures, but I do have a cute video of Bethany chatting it up that I'll have to post. That was her gift to me. Jared's gifts were a delicious breakfast and dinner and a full Saturday of solo shopping, which was absolutely perfect. (Do all the best mother's day gifts involve being away from the children? I hope not.) Isaac didn't really get me anything so I guess he owes me.

* Amazing weather. I'm glad we got out so much because who knew June would be hot as Hades. I love these pics below because
(a) those kids were just so darn cute for the camera,
(b) more proof of Sister trying to eat Brother that I'll probably have to hide during her teenage years, and
(c) we attracted a nice lady from a nearby park bench that came over to jingle her keys to get the babies' attention. She then offered to get a pic of the 3 of us and told me that the kids made her day, so of course I loved her.
(Jared thinks this one's creepy but I think it's hilarious)

* Birthday. Started with a delicious breakfast in bed...

...then kind of a normal day...

...and then a super fun night out with my guy. We had dinner at Zucco Le French (yum), cupcakes at Sugar Sweet Sunshine Bakery (yum x 2), followed by the Mercury Lounge to see Fitz & the Tantrums, who were really fun live. I picked places that I knew were in the same neighborhood, but I didn't realize that they'd all be within like 3 blocks of each other. Gosh I love this city!

big-eyed B

This girl cracks us up. Whenever we move from a lighter place to a darker place, like every time we go inside our apartment building, Bethany's eyes get super huge! It's like her entire eyes dilate.

story time, gunsies, eating foot, blanket face

Looking back through pictures from last week, I realized Jared captured several things that we do in just one little impromptu photo session...

1. We read. I can see now, I should have known that Bethany was just 2 days away from grabbing a page and tearing it halfway out (like she did yesterday). The girl works fast.

2. We wear ironic shirts. They were made by our friends Carl & Becca on their awesome new silk-screen machine. We think they are hilarious-- both the shirts and Carl & Becca. (Some people know I'm not a big fan of-- read: very anti-- guns. But, who doesn't like a hand grenade?)

3. Sister eats foot of brother. Just like she tries to eat everything. She does not discriminate. Should have known she was teething.

4. Isaac plays blanket face. It's his new favorite game. How you play is you take a blanket (or burp cloth, or in this case, Mom's shirt) and you put it over your face and then you wiggle and kick and squeal until you or someone else takes it off. Fun for all. I'll have to get a video of it sometime.

and the first tooth goes to...

...Bethany!

It poked through on Monday 5/31 at 5 months minus 1 week. She totally broke my "no teeth before 6 months" rule, but I'm still proud. And Jared's especially glad because he found it first. What a good dentist. Aaaand that it's a little bit crooked. What an eager orthodontist!
